Goals
Lightspeed's eCommerce platform services thousands of small to medium business with an online presence. With an increasingly competitive eCommerce market, it was crucial to offer a compelling checkout solution as well.
Key Insights
Numerous interviews with merchants suggested several pitfalls with the existing checkout solution, ranging from poor mobile support, inadequate configuration options, and incapability to support ever sophisticated delivery options. However, most damningly was the poor conversion rate that our analytics suggested. Benchmarking research also suggested several best practice failures with our existing checkout solution.

Modular Groupings
A key stumbling block to an inefficient checkout process was an unclear structuring of checkout steps. These had to be collectively exhaustive but mutually exclusive. Further iterations also suggested certain consolidations of steps that would streamline the checkout process.

The Result
The improved new checkout flow made it highly adaptable and beneficial to all merchants. Our release led to a direct, significant impact on conversion rates. Following its public beta release at the end of 2021, the revamped checkout flow saw rapid adoption by retail merchants.
